Spare Q9770? That's an achievement - did you rob the computer store? Twisted Evil

Well, Nehalem (or i7, whichever you prefer)--and along with it an 8-core processor that most of us will never be able to afford--is coming out soon. Think it might be safe to say that, at least for the time, Intel's new line is gonna be the speed champ.

I don't know how you but I feel like nothing new was made since 2 years. AMD Phenom only more cores = same or worse performance. Intel Core 2 Duo technology only two or four chips on one chip. Geforce 7900GT is still enough for games (we have GeForce 10th generation family). I see no sense to buy new components if someone bought good computer 2 years ago. Maybe that is only my opinion.

Mac (Apple) has a two quad-core processors running at 3.2Ghz each. That's 6.4Ghz's.

IMB has now released a new processor that is 4.7Ghz. That is only ONE processor. It's now the worlds fastest processor. 4.7Ghz x 2 = 9.4Ghz. I honestly don't know what someone would need that kind of speed for.

What , my new quad isnt going 14.4 Ghz an hour? J/K i have seen this all too many times , people take the amount of cores and multiply it by the Ghz of each and say 14.4, Thats not true at all, its just four cores going 3.6 Ghz each. Its like watching two race cars going down the road at 150mph, they are both doing 150 mph no matter how you slice it or dice it they are not going 300 mph combined.

Correct formula to get the flops is to do so :

frequency x # of core x amount of cache (in MB) x number of pins.

Anyone should know that. Wink

I M B? Never heard of it!
Maybe its IBM in camouflage lol Smile
But there`s an old player with an
amazing processor:
Sun T2+ (Niagara 2+)
1,4GHz (okok, not the highest clockrate)
BUT 8 core, 8x multithreading,
blasting fp-performance.
I think it`s in a similar performance range like
the higher clocked IBM PowerXCell 8i!
