I have this cpu-sized board which has the socket 370 arrangement of pins on the bottom, and no core on the top. I don't think it is an adapter, so maybe it is:
a. a testing device, or
b. a continuity plug for a dual socket motherboard that runs only one cpu (like a continuity RIMM for RAMBUS memory), or
c. a time portal to the 5th dimension, accidentally left by space aliens.

So what do you think (or better yet, KNOW) about this thing?

oooh, you mean one of my three guesses is correct?

So its called a socket terminator. Is it mandatory in dual socket boards with only one processor, then?

Some boards needed them, others didnt (BP6 for example)

Most boards dont require them. I dont think... I have only come across maybe 2/10 off the top of my head which required termiantors (Slot 1 and S370).

I do have an Intel SCB2 server board, it comes with a cpu terminator like this, if you were to install only one processor, in another socket you should install this cpu terminator.

In Supermicro P3TDLR+, you can use either, one or both socket, without using cpu terminator.
