|
|
| This is my first post, i have a pentium 4 2.6Ghz processor running at 1.3 Ghz at a temp of around 29ºC. I want set it to run at 2.6Ghz, but arn't willing to risk anything with the temperatures. What is a dangerous temp for P4 2.6Ghz processors running at 2.6? |

Pentium 4 2.6 GHz with 400 MHz FSB has maximum temperature 72ºC, Pentium 4 2.6 GHz with 800 MHz FSB has maximum temperature 75ºC.

Hey,
I just played GTA Vice City with full graphics for 5mins and the cpu temp went to 51C. Is this bad? |

This is normal. I suspect you didn't run any CPU-hungry applications when you checked the temperature before. When the operating system doesn't have anything to do it executes HALT instruction which places the processor into power-saving mode. In this mode the processor still responds to all interrupts (if you move a mouse, or press a key, or your network card receives a packet, etc), but it consumes less power, and, as a result, it has lower operating temperature. When you run the game the processor is utilized at 100% and the temperature rises. This is ok as long as the temperature does not rise higher than the maximum.
