Hi folks I am new to this cpu stuff and could use a bit of help.
I have a unknown machine with a msi ms-6590 1.0 board
cpu 1750 amd athlon.
I want to upgrade the cpu a bit and was thinking amd sempron 2300+ 1.583ghz.
I have xp pro sp2 1280 mb memory.
The only thing this machine is used for is DVDs copys and coping from vhs cpu usege now is 94 to 99 % that is why the upgrade it does a good job as is
just want a better edge..
Does this sound like a ok idea or dumb as a stump????
thank you for any help

Bob

All I did was Google your motherboard information. It's amazing what you can find there:

Idea Exclamation

If my quick search was correct, increasing your CPU speed by 0.183GHz won't amount to much of a change in real world usage.

I thank you much for the assist I knew if left to my own thinking I would make a big mess of something.
Do you think a axda3000dkv4d would be a step foward?
Or should a 73 yr old fool stay away from cpu upgrades???
thank you

That would be a pretty big increase in speed, and it's "on the list" for which I provided a link. I guess cost and availability could definitely be factors to consider. My experience doesn't lie in your particular area, but with the limited information I have, I'd say go for it if the cost is reasonable.

BTW, I don't know any 73 year old fools. The fools are mostly long gone by then. Cool I'll be happy to make it to 60 in a few years. I'm just a young (56 y.o.) whipper-snapper.
