I currently have a hp pavilion a500n running an althlon xp 2800. Would I notice any real difference upgrading to a 3200? I'm not able to change the clock speed in the BIOS. Would switching chips alter that?

download cpuz and post cpu model, thanks

I would say that improvements depend on the usage you make of your pc.

Sometimes upgrading memory is a better choice. How much do you have?
OS?

I probably didn't give enough stats on my last answer. Here's more info:

AMD Athlon XP (B) 2800+ 2.08 GHz
Advanced 333 MHz front side bus
2 gig of PC2700 DDR SDRAM
VIA UniChrome Integrated Graphics Processor
SoundBlaster Audigy 4 Audio Processor

You should try to find an XP 3000+ w/ 333FSB, I guess they don't come cheap.

You could try to buy a 3200+ w/ 400FSB and overclock your board.

Personally I don't know if you'd get much of an improvement changing your cpu.

If you are using your pc to surf the net and use programs like office etc. you aren't going to see much of an improvement. If you are wishing to play games (if you have an unichrome video onboard) buy a video card.

I'm not really into this borderline upgrades, maybe some better experienced users could advise you better of real changes. I'd suggest to go to http://www.tomshardware.com/us/ look in "charts".

Bye
