What do you think about the NS800D ? The ES might just be a plant code. It's just where I got them from that makes me think they might actually be samples.

Why would engineering samples be marked with that on the bottom? It makes them harder to identify as such when installed on a board.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I have yet to see a true engineering sample without some kind of marking on the top to indicate sample status.

With regards to ES = engineering sample, I'd love to know just how many chip types and brands actually have ES for engineering sample. I only know of Intel - and even then in a limited context.

One last note on samples.. it was not uncommon to find chip agents/dealers at one time who added their own markings to chips - usually in addition to the original markings, but sometimes completely replacing them. Pre- internet days!

As for not claiming them to be engineering samples, nice keyword spamming Smile

JAC

If I wanted to keyword spam, I could have done a lot more (did you ever see the word 'Rare' in my listing)

Milspec is correct (the M suffix), they are NOS (I got a tube of them) and I think I've tried to be as reasonable as possible and let people make their own minds up.

As for vintage... as always that's open to interpretation but I'd consider any chip to be several generations old to be classed this way.

I've got the same chip here and it also has an ES on the bottom.
The print on the bottom is 800C054 25 and SL 9381 ES and written in pencil is the number 25.
It would be a nice bonus if there was a way to verify that they are indeed samples.
I also have some other NS chips that say ES but they are marked on on the top.
I'll have to look at them closer to see if there are any pencil marks.

The interesting thing for me is the printed (serial / batch?) number which is also duplicated in pencil. Unfortunately I can't get any more information about these markings.

Anybody else got any similar NS chips?
