I came across some interesting lettering on a PIII-S sample. In the top right hand corner it says Viper and then left side says 1.26g Tualatin. I found this on 2 separate PIII-S samples. The only thing I know about these chips is that they are out of Dell servers.

Unfortunately when cleaning off the thermal grease the lettering came off but you can still see traces of it when you look at it at an angle.

So the question is, any ideas on what Viper would stand for?

Interesting John, I wonder if Angstrom has locations in Canada which is where these chips came from.

I think Viper manufacturer made some adapters, maybe some for Tualatin's? Could your chip had been tested on some of these adapters? (only speculation, no idea at all)
