Any basic CPU documentation will tell you how they work. Just do a search for whatever CPU you want to know about and you will find lots of documentation.
If you already studied electronics you should understand the concept of binary arithmetic, and that will explain why registers are the sizes they are... _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
