|
|
I got this Sparc cpu board, but i can't get of this heatsink that is on top.
I tried all screwdrivers i got, but nothing i have fits in the little hole, or it has too big diameter to get hold of the screw.
The screws are like 6 mm in diameter.
Anyone knows how to get this heatsink of it, because i really want to see the nice gold sparc chip |

| If you dont care about the heatsink you can try to bend the fins and then use a small clamp to unscrew the two bolts |

You have to use a fitting hex nut on this
or you will continue struggling... _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

This kind of pliers may also work! _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

OR, these might not be "hex" nuts and you will need a TORX screwdriver to remove these bolts. Take the board to your local tool store to get the right size tip. |

Get a Torx screwdriver set!
One of the essential things for anybody dealing with electronics. |

I`m not sure but I think the holes are just
holes.... here is a picture with better res.
If I remember correctly I got my ultrasparc
uncovered with such pliers. I tried all sorts of nuts
that would have fitted on the screws but they were
not fitting into the heatsink-notches... big problem _________________ Ordem e Progresso

| I have done many of these..... just grab a standard socket set and start testing sockets. They should come right off. |

The ROUND heatsinks may be glued. I have glued heatsinks on my DEC boards.
If you are talking about the large finned heatsink to the right, then you will need a socket wrench, as Windmiller says. |
