got this board today while cheching out the kerb collections.

just wondering whether to keep the board intact or work the cpu off?

well ive got 50m^3 of floor space for storage (4.5m high)
is that enuf lol Very Happy

plus i was also wondering about TCP Pentium out of a Digital HiNote Ultra II notebook. What should i do here?

i have exact the same board before some months..i desidet to desolder the chip but with no luck..the chip broke like glass..(thin white ceramic)
i think may u can cut the board instead..

I use a chainsaw icon_chainsaw

Seriously though, regarding the Pentium TCP, if you have that much storage space available, I see no reason to destroy a board that may be useful one day just to get at a chip that is in fact relatively common.

If the PPC is a working board, I would keep that intact as well. If the board (or CPU) is dead, I would desolder it.

I've desoldered a PPC from the exact same board. Came off no problems, but don't use too much heat with your hot air gun because the greeny-blue surface will start to blister. And be careful after it's off because the pins are very delicate.

I use an oven on these, with good sucess (I once did about 40 of them lol)

The solution is the apply the heatgun BEHIND the chip. The chip will slide off and the Blue plastic won't be affected. Wink

I use metal shears like this on regular boards..>
On really thick boards, a hacksaw works.
