| Does anyone know what other mobile Core 2 Duo cpu a Penryn-3M (SU9300) is comparable to. We need to buy some Ultra portable laptops but these laptops will be running SQL. Cant decide between 11 inch screen w/ Penryn-3M or 13 inch screen and 2.26 Penryn (SP9400). I am afraid the Penryn-3M might not be fast enough. |

I think you should look up some reviews. You'll find that 3MB of cache isn't much of an impediment. If you were looking at Core 2 chips with 1MB or 512K cache, that would me worthy of some concern. They take much more of a hit down at those cache sizes.
It depends on the app though. 6MB of cache might work really nicely for some workloads. Most programs though are not going to care much from what I've read.
One thing is for sure: a 3MB Core 2 is better than the older 2MB Core 2 chips and those were still feisty little Athlon64 busting CPUs. |
