I own a HP 533w 2.0 celeron 400 fsb chipset 845GL http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07909

Im looking to upgade this to a 2.4 P4 400 fsb........HP support told me 2 differnt things. I asked if I could upgade my celeron 2.0 with a celeron 2.8. they said yes, but it seems like every 2.8 is on back order, so I looked up P4's that had 400 fsb. I found a couple for sale, so again i asked HP support if I could upgrade, but this time they told me that I couldnt upgrade and that 2.0 was the only speed I could go. Could anyone please tell me if I can upgrade processors?

I'm afraid only HP support may know this. Both Celeron 2.8 GHz and Pentium 4 2.4 GHz processors have core voltage in the same range, thermal design power for Pentium 4 is lower than for the Celeron, that is it should work with your current power supply and fan/heatsink. The only reason why you can't upgrade to Pentium 4 2.4 GHz processor may be that motherboard BIOS doesn't support it. If you can borrow Pentium 4 processor from your friend or somewhere else you can try to plug it in and see if it works...
