I take a interest in OEM parts especially HP part numbers mainly due the savings u can make (long as u know what ur buying lol)
I have been building some workstations & servers from NOS parts. The time chasing down OEM part numbers has been worth it
My latest purchases are good examples (in AU$)
5 x Adaptec 2020ZCR scsi raid cards (cheapest NOS $370 each) as a HP part $25 including shipping for all. The HP cards even came with more memory & battery backup than the non-OEM card
8 x 1Gb PC2-3200 ECC ram ($25 for the lot) normally $30-40 for 2 x 1Gb 2nd hand
3.0GHz 1Mb Irwindale Xeons ($20 each) normally $40 2nd hand
3.2GHz 2Mb Irwindale Xeons ($35 each) normally $70 2nd hand
All these parts were listed online only using their HP part numbers. All were still sealed in their original HP packaging.
The only thing to keep in mind is that some OEM cards dont come with the firmware flash pins installed, so some soldering maybe be required if u want to update the cards to non-OEM firmware.
So if u thinking of building some systems keep OEM parts in mind. Just a little bit of research is need _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
