Looking at the different ways people catalogue their collection on the web, i was trying to get a gauge of which is the most popular way of displaying them.
I know in this day and age you can wonderful things on the web, but lets say you can only show the collection in a fixed format.
What catalogue format do you think is best to use? _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I think a directory tree structure, something like:
Manufacturer --> Generation --> Series --> Model Name --> Part Number --> Manufacture Date
Examples:
AMD --> K7 --> Sempron --> 2200+ --> SDA2200DUT3D --> 0435BPMW
Sun --> UltraSPARC --> IIi --> 360 --> SME1040PGA-360 --> 9837 |

Mine are by manufacturer and(or) family(together or individually).
So you can select all Intel chips or all 8080 (aside from manufacturer) or all Intel i8080.
The temporary problem is... I have added soviet chips but not Western (just have no time for it). _________________ My Want List: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22729

by how they are stored
such as i will put TCP pentium in a box and cermaic pentium in another box
so pentium will be classified as intel=>pentium=>TCP, intel=>pentium=>cPGA,
and i put all 8080 in a box
therefore
intel 8080 and AMD 8080 are in a same category. |

I list by manufacturer, major family, minor family, type, sub-type (although most do not have every one of the above in the path)
eg:
Intel ==> x86 ==> Pentium ==> P5
When I upload a revised edition of my site (to show what remains after the big sale, with an update on the status of the collection) I will have a few more of the existing manufacturer/family groups better organised according to my way of listing _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Hi,
I prefer a database solution.
I have created one for my collection 'a lotus approach' - database but on my web-site I am not allowed to use sql.
In the database I have several fields:
manufacturer / kind of chip = CPU or FPU / name / package / ...
I can search with wild cards in every fields also with combinations to other fields. The result can be a list or the possibility to look at each item.
But maintenance is always the hardest work.
So shit in shit out. |

I have question too
What parameters do you use for catalogue?
I want to write programm for catalogue collection.
What database do you use?

I use Microsoft Excel to list my collection by manufacturer.
This way I can sort chips by many different categories, if needed.
The hard part is to keep the list up to date and I'm months behind.... |

| It depends for what reason the person is collecting them. For those interested in the history, then it date order. For those interested in what type of technology then I suppose you could list by fabrication type (NMOS / CMOS etc.) or even by process size (1 micron, 0.45 micron etc.) |

I think manufacturer is best for general cataloguing for CPUs, but donutty sure has a point here, it depends what one expects from a collection. _________________ Power without the price. |
