Socket A mobo compatibility

I'm a bit of a novice so apologies if I should have been able to work this out for myself.

I'm trying to make my mother's PC fit for broadband use - including a newer versions of windows and (notorious resource hog) AOL. In order to make it run at a reasonable speed I want to upgrade the CPU and RAM.

She has an Time machine built on a Gigabyte 7ZMMP mobo with an 800mhz Socket A Duron cpu - built around year 2000. Given the use she makes of it (ie not media based) I think a new comp is an unneccesary expense.

I've downloaded the mobo manual and checked the link in the compatiblity sticky but I can't find a definitive answer to this question. Is a Socket A processor from this period a 462 or does it pre-date that version? The manual specifies only Socket A (K7) to 1Ghz or above.

If so, if I find eg a 1200 Athlon with the required 256/64 L2 cache listed as Socket A (462) on ebay, can I be fairly confident that it is what I need?
