Hi to all you learned folk and Happy Christmas to You.
I am looking for some guidance from the experts - I have a Asus A7N266-VM mobo with socket A/462 I have checked out the valuable information on this site and on Asus' web site and all leads me to believe I can upgrade to an - Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred Model 8 - the mobo has BIOS Rev. 1005 and PCB board Rev. 1:05. Do I need to do anything other than physically replace the existing CPU (Duron 1.33GHZ 200MHZ FSB) and replace with the uprgade (aware of handling requirements, thermal paste etc.) would I need to change the heat sink and fan, change voltages etc. etc.?

Thanks for your anticipated help.

i think everything should run just fine, all you need is phically change the processor. if the bios is set on auto, it should change all the settings for the new cpu automatically, if not - remember to set the fsb to 133. the heat sink should be ehough for the 2400+ as it dissipates almost the same amount of heat as the duron you're putting out. the bios u're using should handle the new cpu without any problems.

Thanks for help so far.
I have obtained and installed CPU (Athlon XP 2400+) booted up first time no problems but the BIOS is only showing the CPU running at 1500MHz when it should run at 2000MHz the core voltage is 1.6V (I think it should be 1.65V would this make a difference). Device Manager does show the CPU correctly as an AMD Athlon 2400XP Model 8.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

Voltage might not be an issue indeed but if you can set it on 1,65V somehow, please do so. Just in case Smile.

To get your CPU running at the correct clockfrequency you have to set the Front Side Bus (FSB) on 133MHz. A CPU get it's clockfrequency by multiplying the systemclock (which is identical to the FSB when it comes to clockfrequencies). The AMD Athlon XP 2400+ has a multiplier of 15x meaning you are running a FSB of 100MHz (DDR200) now as 15x100 = 1500MHz Smile. Try setting the FSB to 133MHz (DDR266). This will be 15x133 = 2000MHz and that's the correct clockfrequency for a 2400+.
