Hi

I have a MS6712 KT4V vers 1.0a motherboard which at present has a XP1500 CPU.
I want to upgrade to a XP2500.

Could you please let me know what changes are to be made in the BIOS/CMOS to allow this and also what would be the advantages in this upgrade?(eg. processor speed)

cheers

Robbie

Good Evening robbie32; I'm not familiar with your particular motherboard, but here is a link to the manufacturer's web page:

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=505

It will open on the "Overview" section, so just click on the CPU Support tab (underneath the picture) to see a list of processors. Based on the info provided by the list, I'd say and adjustment to the FSB is in order.

BTW, thanks for providing a part number for the board in question. So many folks will post to a forum without including any pertinent description of their hardware and expect a mind-reader to answer!! Laughing

As for the advantage to the upgrade, I'd say you already know. MORE SPEED. That's the only thing I can blame my upgrades on.

If there are any more adjustments needed to run an XP 2500+, I am confident one of the more experienced "regulars" on this site will jump right in.
