Athlon XP-M Overheat

Hi,
I have recently upgraded my Athlon 1400 (on Asus a7v266 rev 1.6) to
Athlon XP-M 2800. In idle work temp is about 55 C. When playing heavy game it reaches 67 C. I have an old Spire 5E34B3-H cooler. I think it's too weak for this CPU. Do you agree ?
I consider to install Artic Cooling "Copper Silent 3".
Any advice ?

In case you are using the same cooling as on your Athlon 1400 you should get lower temperatures then with the Athlon 1400 . Maybe it's a good idea to check if the heatsink is installed correctly and if the thermal interface material between the 'die' (what people usually call 'the core') and the heatsink is correct.

With an AMD Athlon (XP/MP) you don't need much thermal interface material as the 'die' is very small. I usually put a small drop in the center and install the heastink right away. Due to the pressure of the heatsink the thermal interface material will be spread out.

Check in the bios what voltage this mobo used for this Athlon XP-M,
maybe it's higher than default (1.55 for AXMJ2800FHQ4C, 1.65 for AXMA2800FKT4C)

You are write about the Bios.
It's set on 1.675V instead of 1.65V (it doesn't allow me set bellow 1.675).
In monitoring Apps (like Everest) it shows even 1.74 .
But from what I heard + 0.1V shouldn't make such an impact.
After all - in "easy" mode the CPU temp is about 55 C.
Only under heavy games in raises up to 67.
I currently consider to upgrade my cooler to
Artic Cooling "Copper Silent 3"
or
Thermaltake Volcano 9
any tips ?

Try to make a gap between cooler surface and cpu core as small as possible
and use very small amount of thermal paste.

But may be you can suggest which of the coolers is better choise:
Artic Cooling "Copper Silent 3" or Thermaltake Volcano 9 ?

Grab this tool ( http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml ) which willallow you to modify the voltage of the chip.

Your AXPm shouldnt need more than 1.5v at any given time.

If this doesnt work, consider attempting some bridge modifications for taking the voltage down- Google for those.

I think Thermaltake Volcano 9 is better as a cooler but make more noise with the high rpm's
If your mobo can regulate speed of fans properly it isn't a problem.
