Picked up a board out of an old calculator today with an Mostek MK5021CN.
There isnt much info around but i found this http://www.datamath.org/Chips/MK5020.htm
what i was wondering is, would it be called a "microcontroller" or isn't it intelligent enuf lol. My electronics is severely lacking so like some help putting this into a group

not so much, its a calculator chip, completely different family.
A microcontoller has to be able to process instructions
An ALU has to be able to add, sub, OR, AND, etc of data.
Calculator ship does none of these. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Unless you consider the 4004
Calculator chips are usually 'hard coded' to do just that job - they cannot be reprogrammed. |
