I am working on a Access database for chip collecting to make documenting collections easier and also more informative. i will make the program available to whomever wants to make use of it.
One of things needed to be done is create lists of standard/common data like manufacturers, chip families and so forth.
This information will only be needed to be enter once, so i am trying to make the lists as comprehensive as possible.

So here is the list of Manufacturers i have so far.
If you can add to this list or offer a better short form name or more commonly used short form please do.
Also i expect that there is/was a lot of Eastern bloc manufacturers i need to add. Details on them would be greatly appriecated.

I apologise for the long list
In the program manufacturers you dont collect will be able to made dormant and not appear.

I forgot to add many thanks to CPUShack for having such a comprehensive list of Companies :D

Nice!

Why not a Wiki? Having the data in a offline app. are perhaps not the best way to collaborate and the information are only available on a computer where you install it, and only Windows if i understand correctly.

I can set up a wiki under chipdb.org (wiki.chipdb.org?) for us to put this information in. Im having these thoughts around the research im doing around sspecs and other stuff.

There are a lot of good info here in the forums that are not taken care of and drowns in all other threads.

That is where i want to end up eventually. Very Happy

I program in Access and use it every day. I know how powerful it can be, especially when there is reams of data.
I will end up adding an export module that can send the data to an online database.

The extent of details will not be just manufacturer, class.. etc, it will be if you want, down to individual line markings (including colour of text & condition of text) So even if you dont have a picture you will know all the details of the chip. A lot of this info will be on drop down lists that i am creating now, like this manufacturer list.

So for now, i'm working with apps i know and will progress from there Very Happy

Ok! All research are good resarch. Windows or Wiki does not matter.

I will install a Wiki out of pure curiosity anyway.

Yes i did Rolling Eyes and quite a few others i knew
You dont see what you are missing until you stand back a look at the flowers Wink

Thanks for all those Very Happy with these extra 30 or so it will bring the tally to just under 300 Shocked

I will add them in.. find full name.. also all active companies i am listing a web address. I didnt put them up yet cos they messed with the listing too much.

I have found a lot of links to manufacturers have dissappeared or changed signicantly.

I wanting to make this database as informative as possible, but keep it simple. Seeing i got a very good response i start another thread on chip packages. I certainly expect to have missed plently here as i'm new to the game Very Happy

When all the companies are adding in, i will put in a format that can be easily imported and find a place that people can download it from. That way collectors can make use of the info now and not wait till i have the database completed Very Happy
