I ran across an Engineering Sample of a Xeon E5430 (QFTS), and was wondering if these are compatible with the standard (SLBBK) when running dual-processors? Or, will I have to buy another engineering sample?

Overclocking is not the concern in this case...

Awesome! Didn't want to mess with the thermal paste before making sure! Thank you.

It depends. Usually, sspec compatibility for DP or MP infos are written on spec updates.
But only for regular sspecs, not ES...
So, you can only try...

Oh, and one thing to watch out for: ES are unqualified... They may have certain extra undocumented features, like bad multi-processor operations and extra sensitive thermal shutdown. But most are OK.

My dual Xeon5405 ES runs fine, I only needed to put the latest bios from my motherboard vendor.
