There is a P4004 for sale on ebay right now, its up to $212.00 with a few hours to go, Am I mad at thinking this is unusually high for a P4004 or have you guys seen them go up this high before, I honestly thought $100 would be a high price to pay for one.

I'm explaining it as many people do not know how to buy items on eBay. They bid crazy in auction and if they lose they don't bid for even half of price on other auction with fixed price (buy it now).

Hmm I was the one who bought it...

And I am not on crack or drugs - I need a working sample (Not for collection), This one will be used for repair - This P4004 should be new or as close to new as you can get, so chance chip is 100% OK and in working condition is pretty high.

And as the advertisement, said: This chip has never been removed from it's original plastic case!

I could buy one from a collector or buy the INS 4004 listed on Ebay right now (Bad bad bad shape) - But age, ESD and so could have damaged it. So if I had to buy like 4 or 5 or more from collectors to get a working sample it would have been more expensive. And not mention the time it could take to get a working one.

There is a explanation for everything.

Well ok so youre not on crack Very Happy , I am sorry if I have offended you Embarassed . I was looking at this from strictly from my own point of view as a collector. I guess if you needed it right away for youre project than you have made the best choice for you.
Altho people say all kinds of things about chips they sell on ebay theres no gaurentee that it will be good and as described. And if youre a bit patient I know you could get one for less money as I picked up a NOS D4004 for Right at $100 off of ebay only a few months ago. Now that youve come foward and said why you would pay so much I am curious to know what are you going to make or repair with that chip?

Hey again

I have until lately - Just collected IBM computers.. Mainly microchannel based (I have more then 700 microchannel cards aswell - the collection is primary PS/2 serie and pre PS/2) - And I have one of each model. From the first PC -> IBM PC Server 720. The 720 is the last microchannel based server - This is running 6 way pentium (It run 6 way pentium MMX - 3 times 200 MHz Intel and 3 times 180 MHz all intel overdrive CPU's)... Yep CPU's are running different speed and yes a 6 way MMX setup. Intel dident design the Pentium MMX for more then 2 way CPU setup as far I know. But due to the 720 computers CBUS II design its possible to run CPU modules in different speed and MMX. And they are in fact running different speed.

My IBM PC / PS/2 series are all loaded with Co-processors. Mostley obtained from Ebay. And the "funny" thing is I decided to use different Co-processors to see the difference in speed and so. So some have Intel some have ITT some have Cyrix ect. ect. And here I proberly did the CPU collector death sin - Wink - I opened sealed Co-processors boxes..
I think I still have one or two ITT 287 in box and a 387sx in original boxes.. But thats it

But now to the quistion

A friend who has moved to a new place, gave me a while ago some really old CPU boards pre x86 - And now I decided to try to bring them back to life.

So thats a bit more about me. And no one offend me Smile... Different hobby - But some how still the same. I just need my CPU's / FPU's to be in working condition.

And besides that I have made some wall decoration with CPU's / FPU's but for me its not getting as many different CPU's / FPU's as possible. Just get working parts.

The only relative rare seen from your angle is proberly my Weitek 4167 - 025 GDC and 4167 - 033 GDC - (Both 486 FPU's..) - I guess they are rare but here you guys can proberly tell me somthing - I dont know anything about, what is rare and what is not rare..

Regards

Dr. G
Glad to have you, in the future you may provide an excellent chip testing service I am sure Smile As it seems you have many systems in good working order.

I think that there are several cpucollectors that would like to keep complete systems but lacks the space. And shipping a rare IBM bought on eBay from US to Sweden in my case... Then i need a second job just for shipping fees.

But as cpushack said, we need working systems in the community for testing. As with all collecting, a confirmed working chip will be more valuable than a unknown.

As for rarity i keep track of sold chips on ebay here http://www.chipdb.org/index.php?template=toplist This is perhaps not a way of telling if a chip is rare or not but its a pointer.

Welcome to the forums!

Nice collection Doc!Shocked
When can we get invited over and plunder those PC's for .....ooops, kidding.
Wink

As for the subject of testing chips, I now have a working Pro-Log M900 Eprom Programmer that contains an INS 4004. I can test 4004's in it if anyone wants this done in the future.

I've also finally organized my PC collection and I have working computers, that I would be glad to offer for testing, for these CPU's:
8088, 8087, NEC V20, 80286 PGA, 80287 DIP, N80387SX, N80386SX, A80386DX, 486 PGA (Socket 3), 80502 Pentium, 80503 Pentium (Socket 7), Pentium-Pro (Socket 8 ), Socket PGA 370. Smile

My computers contains the following CPU groups...

8086 - 8087 - 8088 - 80286 - 80287 - 386 SX - 387 SX - 386 DX - 387 DX - 486 SLC - 486 SX - 487SX - 486 DX - 486 DX2 - 486 DX 4 - Pentium 60 - Pentum 66 - Pentum 90 - 200 Overdrive.

Then there is some different upgrades like 486 SLC 2 and 486 SLC 3..

Texas instruments 486 DLC

Cyrix 386 -> 486

Intel overdrive Pentium

Intel overdrive 486..

And as I worote before different Co-processors.. Like the Weitek, Cyrix, Intel, IIT ect. ect.

So when I buy out there - I need working sampels..

And in my controllers ect. There are used 80186 / 80188 cpus..
