Laptop is putting out much heat from the processor and I fear it is getting ready to go. An attempt to repair at a local computer shop failed to stop the heat. I paid over $100 with only worse results but that is another story.

The laptop is too old to put a $200 processor in. (replacement from HP) so I'm looking for a cheaper version. The specs say it is socket 479 but here it says socket 478.

If you were going to replace the processor but not replace the HP version, what one would you choose if the speed 3 Ghz were to stay the same??

A common cause for overheating in older laptops is a clogged heat sink radiator grill.
Try these websites for helpful instructions:

I have the same laptop and the cooling fans run much less after I cleaned the lint from the heat sink vent grills .
Good luck! Smile
