VIDEO Editing! Whats more important? Clock Speed?Cache? Ram?

I do alot of video editing at home using Premire adobe elements 4.0 and on my current set up it runs a lil slow especailly while rendering media into a different format so later i can upload to the net.....there's so much to consider whats my prioritys win considering a new CPU FOR EDITING? Is clock speed more important? or is mb's of L2 cache more important? 45mn vs 65nm? duo vs quad? I read that for editing you want quad over duo is this true? and why? ive seen some duo's with faster clock speeds then quad's? dont i want the fastest clock speed? is a quad with a slower clock speed better than a dou with a faster clock speed for EDITING? Im very confused on which stat is more important for what i want........CAN ANYONE HELP?

For video-editing you need CPU (it's better to have more core than faster clock), a lot of ram and really fast hard-disk.

I just purchased a Q9400 (2.66GHz 12MB L2, Quad) and it made a HUGE difference coming from a P-D 950, I can edit almost as fast as I can move my mouse around. Recoding still takes some time, but I'm coming from 30 minutes down to maybe 5-6-7.

All you need is fast RAM (DDR2-800 or DDR3 recommended) and some number-crunching cores- L2 helps, but it's really just computational ability thats the deciding factor.

so if i have two cpu's one is quad but with a slower clock speed and one is duo with faster clock speed id be better off going with the quad for video editing even though its clock speed is slower it will still be better for video editing over the duo? right? ddr3 i dont think my mb supports it its the P5N-5 750i

750i is DDR2. You're going to want an older C2Q with a slower FSB, like a Q6700, over a newer Q9400 (price is much less for a Q6600, too, they are the cheapest Intel quad).

Adobe programs utilize 4 cores very efficiently, so we'll assume perfect:
2.33GHz x 4 cores = 9.33 Processing Ability
3.33GHz x 2 cores = 6.66 Processing Ability.
