Celeron D is a desktop processor, and it's not a dual core. If I'm not mistaken your computer has this motherboard:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&product=90381&dlc=en&docname=bph07813

It doesn't support 533 FSB, required by the Celeron D, and it doesn't support Prescott. So, it's very likely that the Celeron D will not work in your motherboard.

My Celeron D 2.53/ 533 functions in my MSI 845 Lite. It defaults to "400" ("100") speed cpu bus but can be overclocked up to "132". That desktop Celeron runs slightly lower voltage and much more amperes of current than many older CPUs making it less ideal. Other than the worse wattage the desktop Celeron is pretty similar however (and here`s an area for discussion) the L1 cache size on the CD is called 16 KBytes instead of 8 + 8 KBytes of the Willamette and Northwood processors. My MSI motherboard benefits from ECC memory even though every memory authority (maker) on the internet says the motherboard is not supposed to use it. One has to turn on ECC in the bios. ("SDRAM intergrity, Disabled, ECC"). I had an Intel motherboard similar to the one in the picture above which was very fussy on memory health and wouldn`t take 32 MB memory sticks at all. It`s working fine at it`s next owner`s. Give your Celeron a try but aim some close fans towards/ away from the motherboard between the CPU and the parallel socket during the test. Note that some Intel motherboards turn off CPU L2 cache when encountering Celerons and therefore are almost useless with Celerons.

@Fred- Your 845 chipset does NOT support ECC< how does your motherboard? I'm willing to gamble it's there saying it supports it, when in actuality it's ignoring all ECC functions.

Only 440BX, and subsequent chipsets with an X (875x, 925x, 975x, x38 and x48) support ECC, and only sometimes is it available in the BIOS on these chipsets only.

According to howtodrivers.com the Intel 845 chipset is an i440BX chipset. This is one possibility. I could see although I would tend to doubt, that ECC logic could be implemented next to the chipset with some bus chips or something different. In any case, I don`t have wild inner testing nor have begun firing the unit up in regular use. Putting in non- ECC memorys while ECC is enabled should make a quick comparative answer.
