I returned from QuakeCon yesterday, and have this keychain to show you. It is an nvidia G73 GPU (GeForce 7600 and 7300) encased in acrylic.
Also, I watched Sami Makinen cool down AMD's latest Phenom II X4 965 CPU with liquid Nitrogen, and then liquid Helium! At approximately -230 C, he overclocked it from 3.4 to 6.6 GHz! Then he ran the 3DMark06 benchmark, and set the #3 world record! He did all of this on Saturday night, right at the AMD booth at QuakeCon. It was fun to watch, and he came close to reaching #1, but we ran out of time. |

Nice keychain although I prefer ATI-tech
Those extreme overclockers are crazy!
It does not make much sense to overclock
a CPU for a few minutes, I need continous
high speed!!! Or do those overclockers have
a big helium tank in their garden?
Looks like my new Phenom II X2 550 BE
won`t run faster than 3.9GHz (good air-cooled).
But I like it still runs well at 3.6 with
slightly undervoltage
And very very nice performance
for that price! Let`s help AMD to
survive and buy Phenoms!!! _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

johnorun, QuakeCon is held every August in or near Dallas - it was in Grapevine, TX this year. Check out www.quakecon.org Obviously, it is a gaming LAN party, but the hardware vendors are also there as sponsors. AMD, Intel, nvidia, Antec, Kingston, Alienware, Inwin, Coolermaster, and so on.
doccy, they brought along 3x 100L tanks of Helium. They could expend all 300L in about 1 hour. Helium overclocking is completely impractical - really crazy stuff only good for bragging rights. However, it can give AMD some idea about how their processors will operate at such high frequency. They can gather information to use to improve the designs of future processors. |

Haha, I actually wondered about that, but we were in a very large convention hall, and the Helium dissipated into the air with no noticeable effects to our voices.
thomsonicus, at least we both paid very little money for our keychains. |
