They have a Hard Cement on the Gold Tops.
Anyone got any ideas on how to remove the cement without damaging the Gold Tops?
Thanks in advance.................Cheers _________________ The Older they are the Better they are. |

I soak mine in metho overnight or until epoxy goes cloudy
then let air dry and repeat until epoxy lifts
as for print..it will either stick to gold or to epoxy.. its just an odds game
I see the 2nd is one Intel never put print on.. or OEM removed
EDIT >> seeing some of the metal is showing thru the gold.. say the OEM sanded the top or that epoxy was corrosive
good for practice... scrap or whack another heat-sink on and put in a machine _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I used 99% isopropyl alcohol and a cue-tip on a trouble Pentium Pro, took FOREVER, but got the job done without any further damage. it seems like the goop they had on it stained the ceramic a bit, but at least it doesn't have chunks on it anymore. _________________ Wanted: Grey trace Intel 4004 (mala), will give grey trace and white Microsystems International MIL MF8080, PM me if interested. |

When you say Metho do you mean Methylated Spirits?
Hard to see any Print at all on the Top of the SX948 so I think that it was probably never printed.....It will probably make the Gold Scrapper.....Such a shame _________________ The Older they are the Better they are. |

I may try that if the Meths doesn't work.

Yes mate.
If the epoxy doesn't go more opaque.. then it wont work
then plan B with isopropyl alcohol is only and last choice _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol worked for me on several Pentiums with this crappy Epoxy.
Just lay the epoxy side down in a shallow layer of the alcohol overnight and it should be softened enough to scrape away with a little effort. Be careful not to scratch the print or golden surface. _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |

Well here is the 2nd one & I think Stu is right.
It looks to me like OEM sanded the top but I cannot understand why they would do that. _________________ The Older they are the Better they are. |
