Lots of different new collectors, and curious how diverse of collections there are.

How many individual manufacturers do you have a CPU/MCU/FPU from?

(Each Soviet Firm counts, as do fabless companies)

I have about 120

Even having sold the bulk of the most desirable chips in my collection, I would estimate I still have about 50 manufacturers represented in what remains Smile

I never thought about how many different manufacturers but I made a subtotals in Excel and see that 73 different !!!! This was a surprise for me.

My collection ordered by more than 40 different units: Intel, AMD, Motorola, Cyrix, IBM, VIA and NEC (83% of totals)

No chance to count them at the
moment because of my recent move
(most still packed well) but I think around 80...
I`m collecting all kinds of processors plus ALUs
and like very much the exotic, uncommon stuff. Smile

I am very specific about my collecting. I collected IBM only for the first 2 years and then moved on to collecting Intel samples. After 2 years starting collecting Nexgen and AMD K6. Then most recently started collecting Pentiums. When I first started collecting Pentiums I had 8 Pentium samples but only 5 production chips Smile. I also collect clones and am trying to find 1 chip from each factory. I also informally collect Amdahl chips and memorabilia.

All IBM
Clones
Pentiums
Nexgen (Other than a browntop Nexgen my collection is complete) If anyone has one for trade I've got something very very rare for ya Wink
AMD K6
Clones
Mainframes
Intel Engineering samples ( I am trying to gather a sample from each family and each package)

Sort of collect LSI and AMCC because of there beautiful packages but I only get ones for cheap. I wouldnt pay alot of one.

voted below 100 as I didn't really count but just browsed through a manufacturer list:-)

But as I collect almost every vintage electronic part I can get it is a lot.

The question is... what is manufacturer Smile
63 different CPU/FPU manufacturers considering that USSR is one point here.
99 ones if go into details of USSR manufacturers.

so in any case 61-100 Smile

I collect mainly CPU/FPUs with most being Intel but have been caught by the overall bug and now how CPUs from about 41 different manufacturers.

It is probably a bit scary to think where all our collections will be in 10 years (and what they will be worth!). My goal would be to get to 3-4000 CPUs by then.

that is why I mentioned each Soviet firm counts as one, since they are different plants/logos.

And I wouklld assume there was some 'friendly' competition amongst them.

How many variants of Nexgen chips are there (or to put it another way, how many do you have in your collection)?
