There was a pile of listings for qSpec Intels not long ago.. a few sold at the sellers BIN price, but most went for 25 - 50% of the BIN price (what i consider a fair price).

But the seller listed another lot.. (not happy with his last sale Confused

)increasing his BIN by 50% and increasing his start price from 20% of BIN to 66% of the BIN price Shocked

(and adding there was No Reserve Laughing

)

So his new start price became higher than his BIN in his old sale Shocked

With the trend of increasing prices... what are u willing to pay for a chip to fill a gap in your collection? Shocked

I cant select an option. What I am willing to pay for a chip depends on what it is and how badly I want it at the time. After a while if I cant find it I'll simply let it go. A chip I was prepared to pay a couple hundred dollars for would then become worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it... and I suspect that would be far less.

I personally don't bid. Collect only what I find on scrapyards (usually for free), stuff that 've used during the years or what I get from friends Smile

Maybe it hampers collecting a lot, but it's a rule that I still keep to.

I have been speaking with this seller for about 6 months and knew about the large selection they have. It is a large company who deals in supporting old hardware. He basically strung me along for months as we went back and forth trying to get a list from him.

I realize now he probably NEVER had any intentions of selling to me but was trying to figure out what was rare and what wasnt. He wouldnt even give me combined shipping.

Probably one of the worst experiences I have had with a seller.

Regarding what I will pay.....if it a very specific chip(like that 75Mhz IBM 5x86c I bought recently) I have no problem spending money on it. But if it is a sample that isnt something specific I want I am not going to pay market value because most of the time I think market value is blown out of proportion.

I think it's a shame that there are sellers like lzf who keep chips listed with very high prices (which I doubt anyone pays), which other sellers then try to use as the market price.

Cant blame him for trying to get the best price. Seems pretty simple to me.. If you dont like the price, then walk away. You can't win everything.

I can't vote.
I'd vote "Whatever I can afford at that time"
as it is sometimes pretty much (as the 6502 in a lucky moment and a "don't care for your bank account"-thought) and sometimes almos nothing when I am realistic (like all flat military 42 pin 2901 chips went to others)
