Hi
I have noticed that my cpu is running abnormally hot. I have no clue what could be causing this. I'm using Everest Ultimate to monitor the temperature. It give me a total of three different temp readings: labeled "CPU" "Core #1" "Core #2." When it's idle "CPU" is at around 37, "Core 1" and "Core 2" are at around 45. I assume the "Core" temps are the ones that matter in terms of how hot the cpu should be.
At 50% cpu usage Cores #1 and #2 shoot up to 72 degrees.
The "CPU" temp goes to 66.
When I run a cpu stress test with it running at 100% it easily reaches 99 degrees!  After about two minutes at running at max throttling kicks in. The heatsink reaches about 2300 rpm.
What could be causing this? This was the first computer I put together I guess there is some chance I did something wrong. I applied an even coat of thermal grease and installed the heatsink fine. (to my knowledge)
Help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. |

My guess is that the HSF isn't fully latched down. The installation pins pose a problem for many people and are easy to foul up. If you can move or rock the HSF fan from side to side it isn't installed correctly.

It seems to be correctly installed. It's snug in place and seems to be exactly where is should be. |

Any bios update available?
If yes try that.
Try this program for cpu temp "core temp".
Also Everest.
Let us know. |
