I haven't upgraded in 4 years, looking for something that can handle the latest & greatest in pc gaming! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Nov. 1st
BUDGET RANGE: $1200-$1500
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, gaming, gaming, surfing/word processing
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: OS, speakers,
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, as i have listed below. Price is the primary concern.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
PARTS PREFERENCES: AMD CPU, 24" LCD, and full tower case
OVERCLOCKING: Maybe
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe eventually
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920 x 1080
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
*I would like a quiet PC, Upgradability and longevity are both highly valued.
*Monitor and speakers are not 100% necessary atm and are located at the bottom
*Are all the components compatible? Any possible problems with them?
*Can i use a med. case for this rig?
*I had a friend help me with the specs, just seeking approval. I don't know a lot about compatibility and performance between the different parts. Also, I am indifferent to where the parts are purchased, if there are better deals elsewhere let me know. Feel free to comment on the build, any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

None of your links work.
1. AMD is NOT the processor of choice for medium-budget machines. AM3 is going to be phased out very soon.
2. 5850 card is good choice.
3. I dont know what HDD you have, but I can be almost sure it's not the WD 640GB Black, which is my ABSOLUTE most recommended drive.
4. Make sure you buy a memory KIT and NOT individual sticks. I recommend buying only 1 kit (2 DIMMs) and leaving an upgrade path for yourself. I recommend DDR3-1800 or so, 4GB kit (2x2GB DIMMS). You nearly simply CANNOT overclock with 4 DIMMs on the motherboard, and expect results. |

According to recently posted AMD roadmap, AMD's 32 micron CPU will use socket AM3r2 (AM3+ ). If AMD will make it backwards compatible with older processors, like they did with socket AM2+ and AM3, then it will be possible to upgrade socket modern AM3 board with future processors.

Well I know S1G2 is NOT compatible with S1G1
I just recommend Intel, but I'm no fanboy. AMD has the low-budget quad section, low-budget performance market, non overclocking, and previously owned Intel before Core architecture. |

A case like that looks at YOU, not the other way around. RotFLMAO _________________ "Have you scanned the RAM timings for Operator's Headspace?? Too much real estate between the audio collectors will block the connection which allows proper operation of your computer."_Cobra
