I'm having huge troubles with my new laptop's fan, spinning too much and sound lous as a jet turbine...
I tried a few programs but none worked.
I looked for informations on how to edit manually ACPI commands in order to edit presets, but found too techy stuff or just useless stuff.
The power saving drivers that come with the laptop are a disaster, making the pc louder than my desktop.
As I'm a little over with ideas, tired and had an assistance lady knowing so much to ask me to blow hard in the fan exhaust to see if it were just some "overheating, help please!
Specs,
Win Vista 64bit SP2 (I have the same problems with W7 32bit - Ubuntu 9.04 has no support or just I didn't find it and fan spins at a 50% fixed speed).
C2D P7350 (varying from 39 to 60°C, but another program gives me 28 to 45°C - even readings are giving me headaches).
Ati 4650 (same cpu temps)
If you need other infos ask.
thanks a lot |

I dont know ACPI, but when my fan of laptop didnot work, I get it repaired by a professional man. cost me less than $10.
He just get it out, remove the dust, add oil.
ALL OK now. the temprature of its cpu go between 50~60'C after repairation while before it was 95'C~100'C _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

Warranty service was lame, the girl over the phone was irritating and disrespectful.
Digging things I found that many other users complain about poor cooling solutions used in products.
The laptop is very good, I like it much, but after explaining the problem all the operator could do is to have it RMA'ed. No checkings before, no nothing.
I was calling in Italy, not some indian call center.
If you have programs to suggest in order to make the fan quieter, please do it.
Chipset is GM45. |

In fact after opening the thing up, the fan is "hydro" something bearing, but I could hear a loose part in it.
It started cool but got higher temps in just a month. First day I saw a movie and no sound came out.
I am starting to think they used some low quality thermal goo... maybe I should open it and Arctic it After warranty expires. |

*oshiba initial T...
You get it
I can't have the fan stopping to spin, unless I maually change power profile.
Opened the pc and found that it has an "Adda" blower, and two riduculous h/s. Temps go from 40° to 60° in 2 minutes, and over again.
I'm a rant these days, must be the rain... |

| Put in a hand- picked fan with a rheostat in series with it. a little nail polish laquer on the "low end" of the rheostat makes a good off switch. No more problem. |

I was thinking to change the blower and put a low-noise fan, low speed.
I want the problem solved first.
Alas the assistance of Poland is the only one to care, germany needed at least 100 or so persons to complain, all the other countries denied to be an issue.
Really sucks... the issue is 99% bios related. |

Some years ago I had Gainward GeForce 3 Ti and fan was getting noisy and under warranty they changed cooling system to new. All made under door-2-door warranty system.
Like hugo said you can try to open fan and use greases to reduce frictions and get a bit quiet. But for 10 USD I'm sure no body from service will not even open laptop. Here in Poland that service should cost about 20-25 EUR. Changing fan will not be so easy because of not standard case of fan and type of mounting inside - screw spacing, dimension ... but you can try. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

The fan is working properly, the problem is present in 3 days old models too.
I guess it isn't too much friction to cause the problem as in linux the fan is stuck at 64% all the time, power saving driver bad? we don't know...
if you want to read:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=30&tstart=0
start from page 1.
I already removed dust (there wa nothing). To buy a new model of fan, easy as on the net there are plenty.
I was trying to understand if could bypass bios for acpi, maybe some app, but looks like nothing works....
Yes, they have a pick up& return program that's not the problem though. |
