Hi,
just added this board to my museum. It's a Cray T3E-600 nodeboard (1995), with 4 DEC 21164-BA 300 CPUs. The large LSI Logic chips with aluminium heatsinks are L2A0115 CRI-C. On the opposite side of the card there are eight cache modules (16 MB each). The Model 600 was the first member of the Cray T3E massively-parallel supercomputer family.

Shocked Beautiful board!
Are you missing one LSI (at the middle row)?

Hi,
intriguing question...!
The Wikipedia picture of a T3E nodeboard in fact shows a board with two LSI chips in the middle, but I have a technical article taken from a Cray brochure in which is pictured a card with only one chip. I don't know the difference. IMHO the "normal" card has two LSIs, this is a highly symmetrical system...

Hi Paolo, thank you for information. I will try to find that brochure. Is it too much if I kindly ask you to post here or PM me some reference?

I am hunting this board (or any other Cray beauties) and yes, picture from Wikipedia was reason for my question.

Hi,
now, I think You're right, my card is likely incomplete. If You check the Wikipedia picture, You see the two LSI chips in the middle have different labels. My reference is a publication (here is an online version: http://www.zib.de/zibdoc/zib/mpp/t3e/T3E_OED.html) written back in 1996 by W. Oed at Cray Research Gmbh.
The picture "Abbildung 13" describes the nodeboard configuration.
This block diagram is a bit confusing, I think there is only one I/O Kanal chip but in fact there are 2 of these LSIs, because the black chip in the middle can be likely the GigaRing interface controller.
I hope You will find this useful for your research.
Paolo

Hi Paolo, please don't get me wrong, I couldn't be right (or not right) because I am not sure if it's missing or not missing.

This was just simple question. I am looking for information, so I can be well prepared if I ever come in position to find one of this boards. Noting more than this.

There are not too much information about T3E. Publication you mentioned as reference also say that there is different boards in different systems (water cooled systems, air cooled systems), also, there are different machine types; Cray T3E Classic, Cray T3E 1350... and schematic you refer to is just schematic...

After all, i am still not sure... but I have found excellent place to get information about Cray systems and if you want you can do that too. Some guys from Munich, Germany, have great project and you can see what they doing here;

http://www.cray-cyber.org/pictures/general1.php

It is obvious that they doing this because they like what they do and... IMHO this would be perfect address for right answers.

Best regards
