I know we had the discussion some time ago about the ebay toplist (can't find the thread), but can I bump this topic.
Seems the toplist has been pulled, but I vote for it to go back up. Removing it seemed to have no impact on 4004 prices paid recently, and I find it useful to see the history of sales. So here's a poll...hopefully we can agree to get it back up again.

I don't care.
A TOP list doesn't convey more implication on the value of a chip.
And when time goes on, the listings will be removed and the picture of the chips will lost as well.
And the TOP list can record only the TOP one, how about the SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH... ?

So...
If the script can store every listing we concerned for ever including pictures, sellers, time, prices, bidders, in fact everything, to build a comprehensive database.
Thus we can browse it any time even after decades!
That would be funny!
And useful!

I'm voting for keeping the toplist.

Also, the site actually kept track of multiple "high scores", not just the top one. I found it extremely useful.

I had always liked the top list to track past sales of chips, No matter how much info we put out there available to people they will always use it in the manner in which they intend. I recently showed a sale involving a board with a white C4004 in it and the seller had in the description that the last 4004 sold on Ebay went for $1800, well as we all know that isnt really true , BUUUUT it is in a way. The chip he was referring to was a 4004 but it was a NOS grey striped 4004. I had bought the same board from the exact same seller for $250 including a top board that was loaded with c1702 Eproms and in that sale I was the only bidder. But to give a more realistic pricing of chips I do think it should contain all auction chips not just ones with 3 or more bids on it as I have seen plenty of chips sell for less than the ones listed on it. But they only had one bid on them, so it wasnt counted.
As for the pictures of the chips sold I do think that you could take the pics off of Ebay used for the sale and post them as there must be at least some seconds between the auctions end and the payment of the chips that legally could be said no one owns the chip yet. Thus no infringment taking place, or just take em anyway and remove them if someone makes a stink about it. I highly doubt anyone would get the site closed down for posting a supposed stolen picture of a sold chip. I have also stated before that I would be more than happy to help manage whatever needed to be done to achieve these goals. If thomas was willing to give me the script or tell me how to do it on my site I would be glad to get it going again and assume all responsibilty for it. Legal or otherwise. Very Happy

It would be easy enough to capture the end page as a jpg and have this as the link, so then you could see all the info from the auction. Make the entire db accessable to those who have "group buy" privileges so only us collectors can see the info (probably also stops ebay seeing us saving screen captures from their site). My 20 cents worth...

We can only have the top list if it is presented by some naked dancing girls.

Personally I think the list was/is useful. My onlyproblem with it was quoting the list when unknown selleres ask what something is worth, for reasons I stated at the time Smile
