I currently have:
Intel Celeron D 450@2.2ghz, 32 bit Vista, 2 GBs ram
I just bought a used intel celeron D @ 3.33GHz as a minor upgrade. When i attempted to install the CPU my PC wouldn't start the light stays on yellow like in a normal startup proses but never goes to blue like it should. No boot menus come up at all. The new CPU is compatible with my mother board and they are the same socket # 775.Is it possible the power supply is different im currently running at 1.26V my mother board model is : Dell Inc. 0RY007 A01 PLZ HELP
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27131 : attemtped to upgrade to
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35100&processor=E1500&spec-
well its not new its used its an intel celeron D 356 3.33ghz socket # 775
I currently have the Intel Cleron 450 @ 2.2ghz it is not a dual core possessor its single core so its worth the upgrade to a celeron a@ 3.33ghz (the one i bought) i have also updated the bios and no luck

I'm confused; which processor did you have and which one did you buy?
You have a Celeron 450 (click!) and upgraded to Celeron 356(click)?
If I'm not mistaken the Celeron 450 is based on the Core 2 architecture (like Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-Core) and (for sure) the Celeron D 356 is based on the Netburst microarchitecture like the Pentium 4. Despite the higher clock-frequency I really doubt if 'new' (actually older) Celeron D is faster.
All Celeron D processors are based on the Prescott or Cedar Mill core which is also used for the Pentium 4. The Pentium 4 is known for high clockfrequencies (lot's of MHz) but low performance (it does very little per MHz). The newer Core 2 Duo processors (as well as Pentium Dual-Core and some newer Celeron's without the 'D' mark) have lower clock-frequenies but do more work per MHz. Just like the Athlon XP and Athlon 64 can achieve the same performance as the Pentium 4 with less MHz.
Be sure about what kind of CPU's you have now. If you did have a new Celeron it's probably faster than the Celeron D 356. To give an impression: my Core 2 Duo T5500 at 1,66GHz was equal with my Pentium D 3,6GHz using CPUMark. That's a difference of a whopping 2GHz but performance in that particular benchmark was pretty much the same. Depending on the application the Pentium D would sometimes be faster, in other applications the Core 2 Duo would win. In other words: don't focus on MHz or GHz; they don't mean anything if you're comparing different architectures .
About the compatibility: some newer LGA775 motherboards can run the newer CPU's like the Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual-Core but don't accept the Pentium 4 or Pentium D on LGA775. The Intel Deskop Board DP35DP is a good example; it can run all the new 775 processors but it refuses to run the Pentium 4 or Pentium D because they are made with the old architecture. The fact that the old (or new the other way around) fits in the socket doesn't mean it will work. _________________ thandor.net - hardware
