By the way, what is the significance of IBM9314 ?
Since this appears on many IBM chips, it is obviously not a date code. |

Hi,
IMHO you're right.
It's only my opinion, nothing found online nor in books.
The meaning of these codes is a mystery for many IBM collectors (like me).
I know at least 7 common codes: IBM14, IBM22, IBM52, IBM5352, IBM7070, IBM9314, IBM98. Based upon my personal experience: many vintage (70s, 80s) IBM MST (Monolythic System Technology, integrated circuits in IBM aluminium packages) are IBM52. "Dutchess" logic chips (an early IBM form of gate array ASICs) are either IBM5352 and IBM22. IBM9314 are frequently marked "ESD": "Electrostatic Sensitive Device"? I guess they are CMOS chips. It's only a speculation. But I think these codes are IBM plant identification codes, since there are examples of IBM plant identification done with 2-digit codes (System i serial numbers, AS/400 serials etc.)
