Max is Athlon Xp 2600+, but is top of class and costs a bomb.
Maybe look for a 2400+, just a few % slower but much more wallet friendly Wink

Be very sure to have a 133mhz fsb (266 effective).

Hope it helps.

I was forgetting, look here in our cpu pages for the Athlon xp.

You need to learn which models suit you, because there are 2400+ and 2600+ models that are not compatible because they have a different core and fsb.

Browse cpu-world pages!!! Twisted Evil

You're probably going to need to find out what revision of BIOS is on that board. If it really is KT266 (not KT266a) the BIOS could predate the Thoroughbred/Barton and *might* not POST with them.

Just something to watch out for. Hopefully Matsonic put a sticker or something on top of the BIOS chip you can look up to see if there might be a problem.

It might not make any difference anyway, some boards would "gracefully" handle it and just list "Unknown CPU" but others freaked out.

Good Luck!
