| Hi. So i was wondering. If I get a new CPU, is there a way for me to take my old dard drive and hook it to the new cpu to get my files off of it? I heard about some USB cable used to do this. Is this true? Thanks. |

Yes, it's possible. No need for usb cables.
You plug the hard drive after you installed the OS, it'll recognize the HD as extra storage and you'll have all the files ready for copy. Look in youtube for that (how to plug/install HD, or similar terms)
Works for any kind of connection. If you are planning to just plug the HD in the new pc, than you extra hassles. Look for "old hard drive new pc HAL" in google. Or use some fantasy for a lookup. |

Avoid the cheap end of the USB hard driver interface, they suck ass.
As already suggested, just plug in the old drive into your new mobo after you have built your new computer. |

JAC has right if you want to connect over USB then buy an adapter manufactured by known brand - more expensive. I have bought SATA/PATA 2,5" and 3,5" to USB for about 30 USD and works great but still much slower than direct connection to motherboard.
If you have old hard drive with PATA interface and you want to connect directly to new Intel boards then you can be shocked - there aren't present IDE connectors only SATA - that really sucks. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Thanks guys. So i got the new CPU. My old CPU was a Dell Dimension B110 with Windows XP Home. New CPU is Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Proffesional. The hard drive on 'new' computer went bad (making horrible sounds). So I just put my HDD in the 'new' computer. Now I have problem. when I'm doing the boot menu and all that, My mouse and keyboard work fine
But as soon as I exit that and Windows loads, they stop working
and then it won't let me log in because i have no keyboard or mouse
The key board and mouse are USB plug ins. They pass all tests in the boot menu/bios screen. But stop when Windows loads up. a Friend says that I should get a ps/2 keyboard/mouse because the usb drivers for the kewboard/mouse weren't loaded before. Could this be it? |
