|
|
Hi,
I am new to CPU world and hope to learn more about my hobby of computers. I have been tinkering with computers for the past 15 years or so and have amassed a very humble collection of processors. I got to thinking that It would be sorta cool to put a shadow box together to show just how far processors have come. I would like to see some pictures of how you display your CPU's.
I did a few searches in the forum and did not get any hits but probably just did not use the correct keywords. I apologize if this is an old topic.
Would you mind sharing a picture or two of your display?
Regards,
Tony |

I don't intend to compete with naked1300's display which is far nicer than mine, but my solution was made with space for storage in mind. Two cabinets modified for hold many home made low profile drawers. 2100 CPUs in it and still quite a lot of room... Compact, discreet and keep my chips away from dust.
Opened :
And closed :

I bought the two cabinets, removed the shelves that were in, and made the drawers myself (7mm plywood for the bottom, and a not-much-thicker wood border glued all around)mounted with a small ball slide screwed on them.
Very very easy to make (needed to be simple, since there are almost 70 of them !) and quite strong.
As soon as I find suitable thin foam, I will add some in the drawer , since the chips tend to slide on the wood when I close them.

Right. I will make a higher drawer for them.. as soon as I have time to do it, which is not the case at the moment

I have a few ideas now. BTW a lady at work asked me what I was doing when I placed my original post here at the Forum. I told her I was trying to get ideas on how to display my CPU collection.
Her response.....
"Why do you want to do that?"
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! She's a non geek she just doesn't understand. |

For those of us that are too busy collecting to stop and build a display as nice as those above, there is hope, but at a price.
I am using a "collection chest" with perfect size drawers that I found through Windmiller (thanks, btw ).
(PM me if you want the details.)
I bought it from an Ebay store seller and I lined the drawers with ES Foam that I got from Deb's group buy. I filled it up pretty fast and could easily use another...sigh, but part of the fun of this hobby is finding things faster than you can store them, right?
Some chips are displayed by maker (Intel, AMD, Motorola etc) while others are mingled by package type(plastic, ceramic, etc).
Does anyone else have a preferred way to group theirs? _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |
