So my hope is some of these chip scans will be useful, but probably many are just redundant. But at least some should be amusing!

Revving up the 'ol HP 5100C, scannin' time!

edit: I swear this chip is the most un-photogenic chip ever. I'm giving up after the 4th re-scan Shocked

looks like a zero. I can rescan and update.

edit: anything look interesting? I'm eventually going to scan everything front/back since i think every chip deserves it's day =)

I'm not really a chip collector, I'm more of a hardware gidiot... so many of these chips have a personal history to me! I don't care if they're common as dirt, they still are chips I've had/used/rescued and have done good service to me. Many I can tell you how well they overclock icon_rockon

lol that's a PowerLeap "converter." All it does is give some jumpers for the "2nd" pullup on socket 7. So you could fool around with x2.5 and x3 on old TX boards.

"PL-0D54C/C6" "VER:2.00"

Overpriced, but PowerLeap was cool enough to send me another IDT WinChip when I just RMA'ed the adapter, so it was actually worth it!

The 486 on the bottom row is on some weird upgrade "interposer" which I really want to torture some dumpy socket 3 board with. muahaha.

+2 edit
Ugh, there are more chips to go. Unfortunatly I "decapped" many of the K6-2's I have in the name of greater overclocks. Luckily I'm pretty sure i don't have any "epic collector" chips so people won't faint I brutalized some uber-rare black-top. At least it should give nice die shots! I just have to match em up.

It's nice to see vintage chips preserved for any reason- sentimental, rarity, historical or greed. Whatever the reason, if you have the passion, do it and enjoy the camaraderie here too! Wink

WELCOME to the group. Very Happy

I'm working on cleaning up the den/workshop/junkpile so hopefully some more actual detail scans soon (and not just the 20 chip pileups in the scanner either).

I'm not sure how much interest in 486 era chips there are, but I'm trying to get the box of EISA/VLB boards I had back, then some quality time with a chip puller (gotta love/hate LIF sockets argh).

So I'm trying not to be the "one post wonder," this just gives me some incentive to finally buy some shelves and whatnot to help sort though all this junk/vintage electronics Wink

If it starts drawing out too long, I'll try and get some detail scans of weirder stuff like the WinChip2 to help in the mean time. EDIT: okay I got off my rear and got that one scanned at least!

I've still got to get the guts of the NEC Ready I tore apart for that MMX Mobile off my desk. arrghh... gonna be fun putting that back together icon_censored

The crooked heatspreader is pretty amusing. And I didn't even see the grid pattern on the back until the image software turned the picture blue icon_blink

I guess this chip wasn't quite as boring as I thought!

Cyrix had it going on with their package design. So many weird nuances. What's with the weird square "halo" around the top of the chip? The back is even exciting, it actually looks cool. And it feels heavy... are those ceramic layers?

Plus.. is it just me, or does it look like the die, or at least the black "container" for it on the back not square to the package?

Anyway, that concludes tonight's scanning fun. Going to be hard to beat! IDT, Intel, AMD, and Cyrix in one run... maybe if i found a Harris chip or something next time? Laughing

Very nice Cyrix, uncommon markings on the bottom

There's a bit of delay on me scanning more chips, still cleaning my den and working on getting a place for the scanner again. The next batch of scans will probably be pretty K6-X heavy...

Everyone will get to see K6-2's, K6-III's, K6-2+'s, and K6-III+'s front/back and "naked" since most I've removed the heat spreaders on.

Hopefully it will be something unique!
