I want to upgrade my current 1gig DDR-400 (2x512mb single channel) to 2gigs (1Gb x 2 Dual Channel) but I'm confused about the timings coz there are some brands having 3-3-3 or 3-2-2 latencies (Kingston & Crucial) but my mobo can accept a 3-4-4-8 latency at 200mhz. Now, my question is: Can I use other memory modules with different timings other than what my mobo accepts as long as it has a CL-3 spec?? I am afraid it might be incompatible with my board (AsRock ConRoe 865GV). I don't want to waste extra cost especially DDR modules nowadays cost much. Please help. Thanks...

Hello, buy the less expensive, the difference in real usage is very small.

I'd add, from very small to non-existent.
Unless you have applications that need the lowest latencies it makes no difference.

As nessus says, buy the less expensive and be happy Smile

In terms of network, latency is defined as expression of how much time it takes for a packet of data to get from one designated point to another or it is a synonymn of delay.

Weren't we talking about RAM latencies earlier?
Anyway, in the end it's up to you if you how much money you're willing to spend on your rig but as posted before, differences should be measurable only, you'll notice nothing if hardly anything using CL2 instead of CL3
