I have an AMD Duron computer.

It is a model 3 Spitfire and it has 2 - 128MB memory cards (PC133).

Is it possible to replace them with 2 - 256MB cards, or is that the maximum memory that the system can handle?

Thank you

2x256 should be fine (2x512 may work as well)

what kind of motherboard do you have

PS: moving thread to the correct forum

Thanks.
I don't know what kind of motherboard it is.
I ran the CPU-ID program and it didn't identify it.

I suppose I could open it up again and see what it says on it,
if that would be necessary. Would it say on the board, the name and model?

It is not my pc, but a friends. The pc is about 7 or 8 years old.

She is also running Windows 98 which CPU-ID had a problem with.

When I opened it up, I saw the two memory cards, with a number M196876 on it. Probably just a part number, I suspect.

The only other information that was given by CPU ID was the core speed which was 847 mhz and Socket A 462 (whatever that is)

Are there different sizes for memory cards?
The sites I checked looked like some of them were physically longer than others.

The card has a sticker on it that says PC133 12MB.
So if I got a PC133 25MB card, it should be an exact replacement?

Thanks.

yah it will be 168pin SDRAM

some boards are picky with the number of chips per stick, but all you can do is try and see Smile

before buying something, i would certainly check the mobo manual, however most of the boards should take regular sdram sticks, obviously you need 133 MHz sticks, as of maximum cpacity - we would need motherboard model, usually you can find it written either on motherboard itself(right on pcb) or there could be a sticker for example on the side of the bottom PCI slot or anywhere on mobo.

Because of it's Duron CPU onboard... IMHO no doubt that any mobo will work with 2x256 PC133 SDRAM.

This isn't Cereron (LX/BX/815... ) where there are too many options Smile

Run the Memory Advisor tool for RAM recommendation(s), then use the information to shop for best price:

Run any of these programs to get detailed info on your motherboard and/or other system hardware:
