i just brought a new cpu, installed it, and now whenever i seem to play games its laggy, used to have a 1.8ghz dual core and now have a 3.1ghz quad core and works perfectly when i'm not playing games, but whenever i'm playing games such as counter strike its really laggy now, i didnt have any lag before on the old one :S any ideas?

also my cpu fan seems to be going at about 2k RPM speed when it used to go up to 4k RPM speeds which i really dont understand :s

my system specs

You may be mistaken. Intel Pentium is not quad core.

You have Pentium 4 processor, it's a single-core.

which games are you trying to play with it?
World of Warcraft or Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a big difference in requirements of your computer Wink
If you want to play the latest shooters like modern warfare 2 or so, a pentium 4 isn't enough any more, then you would at least need a decent dual core processor. This pentium 4 is enough for normal duties, but not quite for gaming, at least a core 2 duo would be advisable then Smile
