Current system from CPUID:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz
Abit GD8 775 socket Motherboard (i915-ICH6)
2048 MB RAM DDR Dual Channel
Saphire Vapor X Radeon HD 5770
Antec 400W power supply
80Gb western digital harddrive

I recently purchased the graphics card listed above and it seems both my processor and motherboard are bottle-necking my system. I am looking to spend some money to upgrade and was looking for advice. Key items I need include a processor, motherboard, and power supply. As for pricing Id say I'm looking in the moderate range. Same range for each item as I did for the graphics card, not top of the line, but not crappy either. Thanks.

I don't know wether you prefer Intel, AMD or don't care.

If you go AMD, I could suggest building a system around the MSI 770-C45.
It's DDR3, quite inexpensive and supports all the basic features yet still supports quad cores.
In europe they are around €57 or so?
It supports up to 16GB ram so it should be quite easy upgrading later, if you desire so.
AMD cpu's can be had quite inexpensive aswell

any suggestions on specific items and pricing? I've been browsing on newegg and I honestly cannot tell what the better buys are. Most have solid ratings and yet a spread of pricing.

I build a PC a couple years ago with the exact same preferences;a good 'working computer' to be as cheap as possible while still being good enough.
I ended up buying a s939 Athlon 64 3500+, 2 GB ram, a 400GB samsung drive and an ok 450W silent PSU.
Total cost was slightly above €300 (excluding the GF7600GS AGP I had laying around unused)

To get back to your last question:MSI 770-C45 $79
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130228&Tpk=msi%20770-c45
AMD Quad core 2.9Ghz $100 (I think this is retail, so HSF already included)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103702
ATI HD5670 512MB $89

I'm posting this just as a guideline for you Wink
The harddrive and memory is more what you think you'll actually need.

One last hint, get a decent PSU for your new rig. imo it doesn't have to be a top rated 800W 1337 overclocker quad rail modular dual X extra Y power supply.
Just don't get one of the REALLY cheap ones, those are asking for problems down the road

I've been looking at the combo deals with newegg and comprised these so far. I was wondering if I could get some feedback. Thanks

Corsair Obsidian Series 700D CC700D Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
Combo price: 300

Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920
ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Combo price: 495

Total: 795

My current case just doesnt provide spacing or cooling needed for newer parts. As listed above I have a good graphics card being the Radeon HD 5770. I was also curious if I need a new hard drive?
