hi could anyone tell me if this is a good cpu too have bought??

Yah that should be a good CPU, they are fast, but run fairly hot.

So make sure you have good cooling.

i just want a pc that can handle alot of programmes without slowing down. is there anything anyone could recommend for me as i just have an amd xp2000 at the moment. i do alot of downloading and study for university. any suggestions on cpu chips would be appreciated

I have used the Athlon 64 chips and they work very well.

For using lots of prgrams I suggest getting 1GB of RAM, this will help your computer to run much quicker.

If what is slow for you is LOADING the programs perhaps you should try a Western Digital Raptor hard drive, they are very very fast.
