You should go to a specialized forum for laptops, maybe here,

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

If you get a good graphics card, expect to have noise from the fan, that is a point people miss believing that a laptop is always quiet.

Have fun navigating.

If you want to play modern games with best settings you should buy a desktop system!

Almost all high-end laptops tend to overheat. It doesn't make much sense to have a super-duper CPU and video card in the rig if they will run at 50% or 25% to prevent overheating. Wink

You should also know that the high-end laptops (they are also called "desktop replacement") consume much energy and therefore have a very short battery operaing time. You won't be able to play even 30 minutes on batteries! The advertised long operation times on batteries are true only if you use the laptop for internet surfing or office work.

I have a previous-gen DTR - Fujitsu-Siemens M3438G, that's a 17 inch GeForce Go6800 powered machine with dual (RAID) HDDs.
During its age (Pentium M 760 2.0GHz) it was pretty powerful but wighout the pricetag of a Dell XPS.
It's a DTR, so running it on batteries is nonsense. It doesn't even have a meter that tells you how long it will stay on batteries, just tells you the % of battery usage. When on batteries, with WiFi, brigtness at lowest and ultra-low CPU/GPU speed (special button which I've seen only on Fujitsu-Siemenses, pretty useful) it stays on batteries for an hour when you're just browsing WWW; play a divx and it will die after 25 minutes.
Another thing is its cumbersomeness, it is really heavy and big; only the power supply unit weighs about 3 kg.
If you want it to be a replacement for a desktop computer - sure, go for a 17 inch. I haven't seen a DTR which has a overheating problem yet. Sure, the temps go up to a whopping 90'C but that's how the system is designed.
If it's a decent laptop to carry around better look for a normal 15 inch with a decent radeon card which will enable you to play Crysis anyway.

and check this page for 3dMarks on various mobile GPUs
