|
|
Hi, wonder if anyone can assist;
I am looking to upgrade my current athlon processor, I have an ECS K7S5A motherboard with a Athlon socket A 1400 (A1400AMS3C) processor and wonder what my options are.
On the ECS website it states that the following processors are compatable - AMDŽ K7 processors (Athlon XP / Athlon / Duron).
Could I simply purchase one, plug it in and off I go?
Any other advice much appreciated. |

in theory yes
some older socket a motherboards dont take kindly to athlon xp cpus, so you may be out of luck. best thing to do would be to update your bios and try.
or you can toss the whole thing and start over. |

You didn't say what PCB version of the motherboard you have. It should be printed somewhere on the motherboard. If the PCB version of your motherboard is 1.1 or 3.1 then it supports Athlon XP processors with speeds up to 2600+. You will probably need to upgrade BIOS to use Athlon XP CPUs.
