|
|
Hey all
I have a AMD ADX440WFK32GI Athlon II X3 440 Triple Core Processor - 3.00GHz, Socket AM3, 1.5MB Cache With a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard.
Now i went into the bios and was able to unlock the 4th core, but in cpu-z it say's the clock speed is 803.6mhz and also in EasyTune 5, but in windows it shows as 3.0ghz and in Everest,
Is there something i am missing or need to do ?
I don't seem to be able to find any specific tut's on how to set it up.
Thanks for any info!! |

| Okay, i restarted and it showed in CPU-Z at 3.0ghz then it bounced down to 831mhz, then back up to 2.3ghz, back down to 834mhz, and now is hanging down at 831mhz ?? |

Now i changed some settings in the bios and when i restarted it showed the multiplier as x15 and at 3ghz then all of a sudden it drops back down to x4.0 and 831mhz........

Does it go back to 3.0 GHz when you run something CPU-intensive in the background? If it does then it's Cool'n'Quiet. 800 MHz is the CnQ's frequency in the minimum performance state.

Thanks man, i will check it and see what happens.
Now that you say that i remember reading something about Cool'n'Quiet back some time ago.
I know with my motherboard's software disc it had some energy saving programs for AMD but i did not install them because on my desktop i don't care about saving energy, i just want MORE POWER all the time!!
LOL!!
I'll post back with what happens. |

Yeah under load it jumped right back up to 3ghz.
I was running a dvd through fairuse wizard encoding an xvid, the mobo temp jumped up to 92c and the cpu jumped up to almost 100c and everything shut down.
I waited a minute and started it back up and everything cooled right down.
I reset it back to it's original settings, 3 cores, and i am going to try it again to see if it overheats like that again. |

Set back to the original 3 core settings doing the same thing the CPU is hovering at 73c
I read that 73c is the max for this cpu.
I am using one of these, i have the same thing on my dual core and it keeps it down to 32C under load.

Maybe i'll take it off and reset it with new thermal compound and see if that helps, otherwise i will get a bigger heatsink because even under 3 core operation i want it cooler.
Any other ideas, thoughts, ect. ?
Thanks! |

Unlocking the fourth core isn't a bonus from Amd to complain about.
If it stays stable good for you, if it crashes it's just no luck.
That core doesn't work at the stock speed, maybe at 2 ghz or lower it's stable but the trade-off is to have a slower system.
That it's for you to try settings and find out at what speed it's stable..... |

That's why AMD has locked the defective core. The company earns less money by selling triple-core chips. They don't do it without a very good reason! |

Unlocking the 4th core is lottery, and the tech is provided by motherboard manufacturers. Amd in fact is not providing tools and discouraging it.
But if one gets lucky, hey |
