| I remember an auction not too long ago, sold for over $140 or something like that. Does anyone happen to have the link of that auction? Is that a rare chip? |

Hi,
P4002-2s are of course more rare than P4002-1s but not worth $140.
I often see ebay auctions of "some" sellers that sell P chips for much much money (eg. Plastic 1802, 6502, 2901 ... for $50 and more). I think that these are fake auctions to increase the value of those chips, especially when they get exactly one bid..
Not sure in this case but I can get hundreds of F8 for 8 Euro or less)

And sometimes there are auctions with the fife MCS-4 chips in Plastic for a buy-it-now-price of $ 49.95. |

they do that? What has chip collecting come to!
But I remember a p4002-2 being sold by collectachip or gmanbc, and there were many bids from familiar people on the forums. I think there were 2 of them that sold. I clearly remember the price was in the 3 digits. Nothing rings a bell??? |

I have a P4002-1 and a P4002-2 with gold leads that I have only seen one more of and I beleive TMAC bought those on Ebay. They both went for well over $100 and if I remember correctly they both went closer to $200.

Wow,
create your own fakes.
First take white paint to make a black plastic white ceramic;-)
Then use this nice tool to make gold leads.
Any suggestions for the gold lid? - For printing take your kids toy...
hmmm, and grey traces? |

| This is another reason not to trust some sales on ebay. I'm going to buy one and experiment how easy it is to electro plate some worthless chips. |

ok, we're going out of topic, but please explain to a stupid German what the hell is "electro plate"?
elegdrisch dellern?
odä indelligent: vergolden???
I think the time you need to get the experience to create perfect chips that aren't obvious fakes will be very long.
So I don't mind this is really a risk.
But who knows... |

OK - I am going to reach far back into the hazy past of my college years: Electroplating is a electric chemical process used to apply thin coats of metal to the surface of another metal. The object to be plated is given the opposite charge of the plating metal ion that is dissolved in the plating solution. When an electric path is established between the object and the plating solution, then the plating metal ions are attracted to the opposite charged object and deposit upon the object. Opposites attact just like magnets.
I have considered trying this type of device for re-plating gold legs of gold legged chips that have degraded from being in anti-static foam too long. Have not tried it yet.
What do you other collectors think about that idea in terms of chip collecting? Is it more like cleaning an old coin - perhaps an improvement that preserves the chip? or would it be a deceptive change in the original chip condition? It could make a chip in poor condition more valuable.
I would be very wary of paying a significant premium for a chip where the gold legs are the ONLY difference between that chip and a more common type of the same tin leg chip.
