Hello,

I wonder if it's possible to put a Pentium 4, 3GHz, Sockel 478, Typ SL7PM, FSB 800
in my motherboard asus P4S8X-X which supports Pentium 4 with speed up to 3.06+, Hyper-Threading but only frontside bus 533/400 MHz?

Does anybody know this?

Thanks
Karl

this is a surprising answer.

Can't I simply configure the BIOS settings to make it work with 3.06GHz?

Thanks

No because the multiplier is locked on the CPU

Another thing: as far as I know the P4S8X-X can't work with 90nm Prescott CPU's. The SL7PM is a Prescott CPU. If you use a 3.0GHz 130nm Northwood CPU your chances are higher.

yes, the problem is that they are quite rare, and the 800 are quite cheap...

Thanks to all

Your mobo will not support even Celeron D FSB 533 - like Thandor said it doesn't support all Prescott family. When you try Prescott you will only see black screen.
